Tachi

The tachi was a traditional Japanese longsword predating the katana, used from the late Heian to Muromachi periods (12th–16th centuries). Worn edge-down, suspended from the waist, it was designed for cavalry combat. With a graceful curved blade, the tachi symbolized samurai status and craftsmanship. Over time, it evolved into the shorter katana as warfare shifted to foot combat.
